Welcome to Shakespeare!
Welcome to our 10th season, to Denmark at Elsinore castle, to now and then and always and to our try and the story of...Hamlet.
This story has something to do with the perfect way to get even. King Hamlet is dead and visits, as a ghost, his son Hamlet, and asks him to revenge his "most foul and unnatural murther." Before Prince Hamlet can act however, he must prove to himself that this ghost is not the devil. He must also have a little chat with his mother, who has actually married with this apparent usurping murthering brother of the ghost. He must take a little trip at sea to clear out the cob-webs, so to speak, and of course he must avoid having his own head removed.
In the mix of our story our the interrelationships among the inhabitants of the castle, and perhaps among the castle itself-the inanimate eyes and ears of this intrigue.
Something about our process: After reading from the play for a little over a year and then finding opportunities around the community this spring to play scenes from Hamlet, we held auditions. The character of Hamlet was pre-cast and he began rehearsals without a script in his hands. The designers began work only when they arrived. Indeed, a lot was asked of everyone. Everyone came all the time. We told the story to each other each night before we began work. This collaboration is all for you. Listen! Yours is not the simple task of sitting back to relax and enjoy an entertainment, but to follow the sense of our story, our Prince, our Hamlet. He's a different kind of thinker.
